Genome of the Day is a cinematic science storytelling web app that turns obscure genes, organisms, proteins, and microbes into daily field notes from the strange side of biology. Built as a PWA-ready Next.js experience, the app combines a bioluminescent deep-sea visual system, specimen reveal animations, a personal logbook, citation-backed biology content, and LinkedIn-ready science posts.
The project was designed as both a learning tool and a content engine for science communication. Each specimen includes a short story, why-it-matters explanation, verified sources, claim-level evidence, and a shareable post format. The app also includes deterministic daily rotation, local-storage reading and saving behavior, offline support, visual QA screenshots, and validation scripts to prevent fake accession IDs or unsourced scientific claims.
why it matters
Genome of the Day is my strongest science communication and product-design project. it turns biology into a daily ritual, making science feel visual, memorable, and shareable while keeping citation discipline and source-backed claims at the center.
